General

At lower temperatures, residual processing lubricants may outgas. At temperatures above normal thermoforming temperatures (excess of 425ºF), PVC-based grades will begin to slowly degrade and release HCl. Please contact appLab™ for additional information and to obtain a copy of the product’s safety data sheet.

KYDEX® sheet products are not a food source and will not support fungal nor bacterial growth when tested to ASTM G21/G22.

Miscellaneous Info

Export Control Classification Number SEKISUI KYDEX ECCN: NLR or “No License Required.”

CAGE Code (Commercial and Government Entity) is a 5-digit code that identifies companies doing business with the federal government. First and last digits are numeric. SEKISUI KYDEX CAGE Code: 0HZM3

KYDEX sheet meets HS Tariff Code : 3920.99.0000 for “Other Plastic Sheet material.”

Fires involving KYDEX® sheet are no more toxic than any other fire.

The combination of fire gases released when KYDEX® sheet burns is similar to burning wood, fabric, and other materials commonly found in a building. The toxicity of building fire emissions from KYDEX® sheet is neither better nor worse than for many other common materials. The amount of dioxins produced by KYDEX® sheet in fires is found to be “insignificant.”

According to the EPA, the vinyl industry’s VCM emissions have been reduced by more than 99% since the 1970s.
There is no confirmed case on record where a member of the general population has been harmed by exposure to VCM.
The actual risk among five million individuals presumed to live within five miles of a vinyl production facility has been calculated to be less than 0.1 cases of cancer in the next 70 years.
For comparison, this is similar to the risk over a lifetime of smoking 1.4 cigarettes, drinking 0.5 liters of wine, and traveling 300 miles by car.

We do not recommend that KYDEX® sheet nor ALLEN® sheet be stored outside.

No. KYDEX® sheet and ALLEN® sheet products are rigid thermoplastic sheet and will not contain plasticizing agents.

Yes. There are a number of ways in which we recycle our non-plastic materials from everyday use. Here are a few:

- Metals, office paper and corrugated cardboard are recycled.
- Used oils are collected and converted to industrial fuel.
- Wood pallets are recycled and turned into garden mulch.

Also, post-manufactured packaging is biodegradable and/or recycled. It is designed to minimize weight/volume to reduce fuel consumption and the amount of packaging received by customers.

Our Kaizen methodologies constantly seek to improve material yield and minimize waste. Our internal recycling process also re-extrudes out-of-specification product and reuses it as raw material.

Air: the use of clean, non-smokestack energies, such as electricity, results in insignificant particulate matter or carbon dioxide emitted into the air.
Water: the use of water for processing is limited – water never comes in contact with the process; water is recycled internally so no surface water is discharged
Energy: we save energy across the entire lifecycle of manufacturing:

- Raw material is shipped in rail cars to minimize fuel consumption.
- KYDEX® thermoplastic sheet requires lower processing temperatures compared to most other polymers.
- High-efficiency motors and sophisticated temperature controls reduce energy consumption.

Type 2 PVC is high-impact PVC. Our PVC products would be considered Type 2 PVC.

PVC is such a small source of dioxins that levels in the environment would be essentially unchanged even if vinyl were not being manufactured and used every day.

- US EPA states dioxin levels in the environment are declining while vinyl production is growing.
- Studies by US Vinyl Institute show trace, insignificant levels of dioxin in PVC resins and products.
- US Vinyl Institute confirmed presence of low concentrations of dioxin in wastewater samples from four US plants that manufacture EDC/VCM.

Product Selection

Yes. KYDEX® T, KYDEX® 100, KYDEX® 430, and ALLEN® 8100BC meet ISO 10993-5 Cytotoxicity and ISO 10993-10 Irritation and Skin Sensitization criteria.

Mold shrinkage for male molds is 0.4% - 0.6% and female molds, 0.5% - 0.7%. See Technical Brief 140-B, Technical Brief 140-C and Technical Brief 140-E for details.

UV Protection

No, most KYDEX® sheet products are not UV resistant. For outdoor applications, it is recommended that KYDEX® sheet is painted or have a UV protective spray (Clear Jet) applied to prevent the material from color shifting. KYDEX® 510 has a Korad film that provides the material with UV protection. There are a number of ALLEN® thermoplastic sheet options for UV resistant and weatherable applications. Please contact your Sales Representative or appLab™ for additional information.
